This year marks the 4th anniversary of the ACM Lifting Lives Club Benefit Concert, an annual event that supports ACM Lifting Lives mission to improve lives through the power of music. Since 2011, ACM Lifting Lives has partnered with Lifting Lives Board Member Ed Warm, owner of Joe’s Bar in Chicago, to coordinate benefit concerts with artists such as LeAnn Rimes, Gary Allan, and Lee Brice. Our partnership with Ed and Joe’s Bar successfully raised over $30,000 and spurred our 2014 “Club Benefit Show Run” in which clubs throughout the country replicated the Joe’s Bar model of the ACM Lifting Lives Benefit Concert. Hailing from Nantes in France, 17 year old Madeon came to the attention of the world for his unique blend of Pop/House/Electro via his “Shuriken” and “For You” tracks as well as his amazing remix of Pendulum’s “The Island” single. His most recent remixes on the Deadmau5 “Raise Your Weapon” and Martin Solveig “The Night Out” singles have been a huge success with support from the likes of Pete Tong, Alan Braxe, Skrillex, Rob Swire etc… His debut single “Icarus” was a hit with both DJs (charting at #2 on the global Beatport chart) and radio (charting in the UK top 40). Madeon’s Pop Culture live mashup video has been viewed over 10 million times.
THE M MACHINE
Hyper-creative and sophisticated in craft, San Francisco-based electronic act The M Machine bring a rare mix of genre-bending ingenuity and refined musicianship to every element of their musical output. With their most recent EP—the five-song ‘Just Like’, released on Skrillex’s OWSLA label in November 2014—vocalist/composer/producers Ben Swardlick and Eric Luttrell deliver a deeply melodic and infectiously upbeat take on underground house. Not only a dramatic departure from their darkly charged earlier work, ‘Just Like’ finds The M Machine abandoning all EDM convention and creating a vocal-propelled, indie-minded breed of dance music that hinges on pure emotion and unbridled energy.
FAREOH
Music has been central to Fareoh’s life for as long as he can remember. He learned to play guitar at the age of nine, and loved punk rock, but never committed to any exclusive genre allegiances. “I was always just listening to new stuff,” he says. Born Ian Spurrier, the New York born DJ and producer taught himself the ins and outs of digital production and honed a sound of his own: a combination of progressive and electro, with the songcraft of rock and pop. Blogs are alight with excitement about the complex yet melodic sound of this 20-year old newcomer’s productions: various original tracks and carefully crafted remixes like his single “Feathers” with Archie and his take on mentor Kaskade’s “Lessons in Love”. Fareoh was chosen by Kaskade to open for him on last summer’s Freaks of Nature tour, hitting large-scale venues nationwide. “I want to follow in Kaskade’s footsteps and represent America; represent these young DJs.” For the intensely visual thinker, Egyptian iconography and imagery has an obvious appeal. “I’ve been in love with Egyptian culture since the second grade,” he says. “I used to beg to go to
the museum to see all the different artifacts and hieroglyphs.” An early Internet screen name included the word “Pharaoh,” so Fareoh simply decided to spell it out phonetically. Pharaoh – which translates into “Great House” – originally referred to extraordinary palaces of Egyptian kings. Our contemporary association immediately connotes “Ruler”. Both definitions are apropos in witnessing Fareoh’s reign over a pulsating room of revelers on any given night.
WCOL‘s next up and coming country music star is Georgia born Thomas Rhett! His debut album It Goes Like This released at the end of 2013, sold over 200,000 copies and spawned several successful singles such as “Get Me Some of That”, “Something to Do With My Hands”, and the chart topping hit “It Goes Like This”. Following the release and success of his album, Rhett embarked upon a massive tour across the country, stopping in Columbus at The Bluestone in 2013. Rhett was recently nominated for ACM‘s New Artist of the Year, with the awards ceremony taking place in April and has made headlines with his country covers of popular Bruno Mars singles. Rhett returns to Ohio this summer for WCOL‘s Country Jam at Legend Valley to once again rock Ohio!
The two- day festival will be hosted at the historic Legend Valley Concert Venue and Campground located on Buckeye Lake, just thirty minutes east of downtown Columbus. 2015 will mark the 3rd year that WCOL Country Jam has taken place at the venue. The festival is packed with the best country music ranging from classic country and southern rock country to today’s biggest country hit-makers.

The WCOL Country Jam is a country festival that has occurred annually for the last 10 years. In 2013, WCOL and Bluestone Promotions formed a partnership to bring the show to the Legend Valley Music Center, a historic venue located near Buckeye Lake in Thornville, Ohio. Previous years included performers Hank Williams Jr., Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan and Tim McGraw. The venue boasts acres of campgrounds and a large field with great views of the stage. Legend Valley Music Center has functioned as a music venue since the early 1970’s, but has undergone some name changes since that time. LVMC has hosted a multitude of artists including: The Charlie Daniels Band, The Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Alabama, Journey, and Jimmy Buffett.

For the eighth consecutive year, Columbus musicians will play all 215 officially released songs, in a single performance. Beginning with the album, Please Please Me at 12:30 PM, and ending with Abbey Road some time after midnight, The Marathon is currently, the only single performance of every Beatles song.

The Eighth Annual Beatles Marathon will take place at the Bluestone, on Saturday December 30. A 12 hour live performance of every Beatles album and every Beatles song in chronological order, The Beatles Marathon begins at 1 in the afternoon, with Please Please Me, and ends with Abbey Road some time around midnight. An assortment of 12 Columbus musicians will, once again, faithfully recreate all 214 official Beatles songs with an attention to detail. Attendees are encouraged to come and go as they please, and trace the evolution of the Beatles throughout the day. This is currently, the only publicized single performance of the entire Beatles catalog in the world. Created by Joe Peppercorn, and directed by Chris Bolognese and Peppercorn, the Beatles Marathon has grown to become a Columbus staple since its ramshackle inception at Andyman’s Treehouse in 2010.

Country singer and songwriter Randy Houser was born and raised in Lake, Mississippi, where his love of music was apparent even as a young child. Houser started fronting bands when he was around 13 years old, and continued playing local gigs all the way through high school. While attending East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi, he realized playing music had its financial rewards as well, and he began working on his songwriting. He also formed 10lb. Biscuit, and the band was well received on the local circuit.
Houser relocated to Nashville, Tennessee in 2002, and landed a song publishing deal. One of his songs, “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” became a big hit for Trace Adkins in 2005, and he also wrote tunes for Justin Moore, John Michael Montgomery, Jessie James, and many more. Houser began concentrating more on the performing side of things and started playing more local gigs, which eventually led to a record deal with Universal Records South. The label released his debut single, “Anything Goes,” written by Brice Long and John Wayne Wiggins, in May of 2008, followed later in the year by a debut album, named for the first single. Thanks to the Top Ten country single “Boots On,” the album performed well, peaking at 21 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, and Houser returned in 2010 with his second album, They Call Me Cadillac. The album peaked at eight on the Billboard Country Albums chart but none of the record’s singles turned into hits, nor did the non-LP “I’m All About It.”
After They Call Me Cadillac, Houser left Show Dog/Universal and signed with Stoney Creek Records, releasing How Country Feels in January of 2013. The title track became a hit single that topped out at number one on the Country Airplay chart, and How Country Feels produced three more singles, “Runnin’ Outta Moonlight,” “Goodnight Kiss,” and “Like a Cowboy,” the latter peaking at number five on the Country Singles chart. In 2015, Houser toured extensively as Luke Bryan’s opening act and dropped a new single, “We Went,” in anticipation of Fired Up, Houser’s second album for Stoney Creek. The Beatles Marathon is arguably the most ambitious musical feat attempted in Columbus each year, and it has also become a beloved community event. Easton Corbin exudes country. His distinctive baritone has been gracing airwaves for the past decade as his chart topping debut single “A Little More Country Than That” established Corbin as a mainstay on the country charts. Billboard’s 2010 Top New Country Artist would go on to garner another No. 1 hit with the feel-good “Roll With It” as well as seven top 10 singles, further distinguishing himself from other male vocalists as a tried-and-true country traditionalist who weaves timeless story songs together while tipping his hat to the classic country artists who have come before him.
“That’s what I love and that’s what I do,” he says of his passion for traditional country music. “For me, it’s about keeping one foot in the traditional and one foot in the modern and marrying those two. I’m a country singer: That’s one of the things that I take pride in. I try to hone that craft and try to represent that.”
Though 2020 marked the 10th anniversary of “A Little More Country Than That” achieving No. 1 status, Corbin showed no signs of slowing down. With the release of his infectious single “Turn Up,” he launched a year of new releases, including tune “Didn’t Miss A Beat,” which he performed on NBC’s TODAY Show. November brought Corbin’s highly anticipated EP of the same title, which included a “wide array” of songs like “Old Lovers Don’t Make Good Friends” and “Back to Me.” He also partnered with past collaborator and global EDM star Lost Frequencies for new release “One More Night’.
As he continues on with this new chapter as an independent artist, Corbin says “A Little More Country Than That” still reflects who he is as an artist and where he sees his career going.
“That’s really how I grew up,” he says of his career-defining song. “‘A Little More Country Than That’ radiates with me and my band as well because that really is who I am. That’s where I came from, that’s what I am. It’s just as important now as it was then, because that’s the one that started it all for me. That’s definitely a staple of an Easton Corbin show. I think it also defines my audience and who they are.”
The Florida native was surrounded by music as a child. A Merle Haggard or Hank Williams record was always being spun at his grandparents’ house and a guitar was often lying around begging to be played. “My earliest memories are of me as a kid with a guitar, singing and playing along with the radio,” Corbin recalls. “I knew from an early age I wanted to be a country singer.”
After a decade in the spotlight, Corbin is more confident than ever. “I know what I want to say and what I don’t want to say, and I know what I would say and what I wouldn’t say,” he explains. “I think the new music highlights the fact that we’ve been honing these songs and trying to cut the best songs and writing the best songs we can. I think the Didn’t Miss A Beat project is a great representation of that.”

Pecos & the Rooftops are a close knit group of friends from northeast Texas that came together while in college in Lubbock. The band is Pecos Hurley (Vocals/Acoustic Guitar), Brandon Jones (Rhythm Guitar), Zack Foster (Lead Guitar), Kalen Davis (Bass), and Kade Trentham (Drums). Their latest E.P. “Red Eye” released January 24, 2020.
