At a time when the prevalence of women in country is being highly criticized, it was reassuring to witness one woman prove that they aren’t going anywhere. Jana Kramer is at the top of her game and has been impacting radio waves with her new single “I Got the Boy.” I have always enjoyed seeing Kramer live ever since I saw her open for Blake Shelton on the Ten Times Crazier Tour. Her performance last night blew all the previous shows out of the water. The energy she brought to The Bluestone in Columbus, Ohio was off the charts.

“I’d be lying if I said there was anywhere else I’d have rather spent my New Year’s Eve. It’s one thing to watch a show as a fan, but to be a friend & watch these fellas do what they love…it’s a feeling that can’t be put into words. I could’ve easily watched them sing their songs all night long and never have gotten bored. If this night was any indication of what 2016 is gonna be like, I’m pretty damn excited. These four dudes definitely lived up to the hype of making this show “A Night That You’ll Never Forget”. http://thetennesseelife.blogspot.com/2016/01/concert-review-nye-with-love-theft-joel.html

With two No. 1 singles, multiple awards and nominations, plus performances on some of the biggest stages in the world, Mercury Nashville’s Easton Corbin has made a lasting impression on the country music landscape. He is lauded for his traditional country sound, authentic lyrics and mastery of understatement. American Songwriter says, “Easton Corbin has one of those rare, glorious voices that was made—just made—for singing country music.” His self-titled debut album released in 2010 and spawned back-to-back hits “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With It;” making him the first country male artist in 17 years to have his first two consecutive singles reach No. 1.  In 2012 the Gilchrist County Florida native released his sophomore album, All Over The Road, which included the Top 5 hits “Lovin’ You Is Fun” and “All Over The Road.”  Corbin set a career-best debut on Country Airplay with his top 5 hit single, “Baby Be My Love Song,” from his No. 1 debuting album About To Get Real.  His latest single, “Are You With Me,” was most added song at country radio the day it was released.  “Are You With Me” first appeared on All Over The Road and was such a special song to Corbin he carried it over to About To Get Real in hopes it would be a radio single. Corbin spent 2016 on one of the biggest tours in country music -Carrie Underwood’s The Storyteller Tour. Corbin is currently in the studio working on new music for his fourth studio album. From “Hillbilly Shoes” to “Headlights,” Montgomery Gentry has become one of the most identifiable duos in the history of country music—as much for their outlaw-meets-gentleman sensibilities, their yin and yang personalities and their intensely energetic live performances as that balance of voices that gives their brand of country an edge or their version of Southern rock a softer place to fall. This chemistry has been reacting for over 15 years. After nearly a decade and a half, Montgomery Gentry continues to draw door-busting crowds into their concerts and release albums that stay true to the Kentucky country music movement they helped define.

That doesn’t mean that the duo has an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” attitude or has become complacent. That isn’t the case at all. Once again, the duo has been working with Michael Knox (Rebels On The Run), and they have collectively embraced the ever-changing environment of country music while remaining true to their signature sound. However, that’s what Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry have always done, and that practice has positioned them as trailblazers for contemporary country. A modest Troy scoffs at the notion, but says, “We’re going to continue to do the same music that we always have, and if that puts us in that leadership role, then so be it. I definitely want to be the one on the front end and not trying to copy something else that’s already been done.”

They won’t and they haven’t. Since breaking into the format in 1999, Montgomery Gentry has been a representative of the workingman, releasing blue-collar anthems for what Eddie calls, “the good, the bad, the ugly and the party on the weekend.” But the songs are about more than just factory workers who like to blow-off a little steam. They dig deeper. They’re about passion: for doing a good job, for working hard and playing harder, for being an honorable person, for loving your God, your country, your family and your life. Even on their newest album, FOLKS LIKE US, the song “That’s Just Living” embraces a life of passion:

How does a country boy from tiny Bilboa, North Carolina find himself an apprentice to one of the greatest songwriters in country music? Ever heard of Bilboa? Yes, it’s that small. But you’ve heard of Harlan Howard, right? “I Fall to Pieces?” THAT Harlan Howard.

Brian Davis isn’t one to push himself or his music on someone. It just isn’t his style. Fortunately, what is his style is writing great rockers and party anthems full of hot screaming guitar, booming bass and thumping drums. Sometimes.

On the other hand, his style is also writing emotive ballads laden with picturesque lyrics that twist and turn phrases to carry the listener on a musical journey of their own or Brian’s life. Those…those are best interpreted by Brian’s pure masculine baritone and an acoustic guitar.

So, it’s really not a case of having to force himself on anyone. It’s more like, “If you build it, they will come.” If you write great songs, make great music and sing from your heart, they will come. And they have most definitely come. From playing all over his home state of North Carolina, to opening for pal and frequent co-writer Brantley Gilbert on the Hell On Wheels tour—last year and this year, Brian has taken his brand of rockin’ country music from a regional to a national level. His Tarheel fans are sitting back enjoying knowing that they saw the evolution of one of the hottest new artists in the format, while new fans are digging voraciously into his catalog that is already six albums deep.

Almost as if he could forecast the future when he recorded it, his newest album, Under the Influence, is almost a musical biography of Brian – both his life and the evolution of his music. “I’m really proud of it,” he beams. “We managed to put a lot of things that are extremely important to me on this record and tried to kind of balance it out. We’ve got things all the way from ‘Under the Influence,’ which people would assume, based on previous projects, that we were talking about going out and just getting hammered, but it’s not.”

It would be an understatement to say that a lot has happened since Whiskey Myers was last in the recording studio. Over two whirlwind years, the gritty Texas band hit #1 on the iTunes Country Chart with their breakout third album ‘Early Morning Shakes,’ earned raves everywhere from Rolling Stone to USA Today, and toured the US and UK relentlessly, slaying massive festival crowds and sharing stages with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr., Jamey Johnson, and more along the way. You’d be forgiven, then, for expecting things to work a little differently this time around when the band reunited with acclaimed producer Dave Cobb for their stellar new album, ‘Mud.’ But as it turns out, success doesn’t change a Southern gentleman, and they don’t come any more Southern than Whiskey Myers.

Fueled by larger-than-life performances honed tight from countless nights on the road, ‘Mud’ finds the band scaling new heights of songwriting and musicianship, with searing guitars, soulful vocals, and indelible hooks. While their approach to the music and humble, hard-working attitudes may not have altered, there have been developments in the Whiskey Myers world, most notably with the arrival of new faces. For the recording sessions, the band’s five founding members—Cody Cannon on lead vocals and guitar, Cody Tate and John Jeffers on guitars, Gary Brown on bass, and Jeff Hogg on drums—fleshed out their sound with the addition of fiddler/keyboard player Jon Knudson and percussionist Tony Kent, who are both now full-time members. “They bring a great energy, and I think it’s really helped our sound and makes the band more versatile,” explains Cannon. “There’s less room onstage now, but sometimes a family grows.”
