It all started with fun-fetti cake and karaoke birthday parties. Every year, Clayton Anderson wanted the same thing and insisted that his little sister do it also.

In college, Clayton decided to learn guitar because he thought it’d impress the ladies. Next thing he knew, he and his friends were playing local parties and bars. After he graduated, he won Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star Competition. It was the boost of confidence he needed to leave his job at a mortgage company and move to Nashville.

Clayton’s first record in 2011, Torn Jeans & Tailgates climbed to #12 on the iTunes Country Chart, situating itself next to household names like Zac Brown, Brad Paisley, and Blake Shelton.

Clayton has been traveling across the country playing backrooms, side stages, and honky tonks from Michigan to Florida, each time gaining a few more fans and a better foothold on areas that aren’t traditional country strongholds. He’s opened for some of country’s biggest stars, the likes of Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Darius Rucker and even Mr. Party himself, Jimmy Buffett.

 Even though he now spends most of his time on the road, Clayton makes a point to stay tied to home. He still keeps an Indiana phone number so his grandmother can call him, and he made sure he was home for the birth of his first niece.

 Clayton writes and sings what he knows. He grew up in Bedford, a small town in southern Indiana. Clayton spent his summer days on Lake Monroe. He loved the Colts before they were good. Clayton pulls a lot of his musical inspiration from his home state’s pool of legends: John Mellencamp, Michael Jackson, John Hiatt, David Lee Roth, and Axl Rose.

 Clayton knows he’s been very blessed. He says his success has been thanks to his supportive family, friends and incredible fans. His journey, like most, has been full of ups and downs, but he plans to always remember those who helped him along the way.

 This new album is very personal for Clayton. He wrote or co-wrote almost all the songs on this project.  Each track marks a different moment in his journey to “Right Where I Belong.”

Chris Cavanaugh

Chris Cavanaugh picked up the guitar when he was 12 years old and hasn’t set it down since.  Not long after he started playing, with just a few chords and a song, Chris performed in the talent show at his middle school.  When the song was over, everybody rose to their feet, and from that point on Chris knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life…

Cavanaugh grew up listening to Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Brooks & Dunn. This influence and his love for music had Cavanaugh making the trip from his hometown of Springfield, Missouri to Tennessee just a few months after graduating high school. After spending a few years hanging out with writers and publishers he had no doubt that he wanted to make Tennessee his home. Shortly after graduating from Middle Tennessee State University Chris signed his first songwriting deal. Over the next few years Chris spent his time on music row honing his craft as a writer.  During this time however, he says, “I always knew that deep down my ultimate passion was playing and performing, so I eventually had to get out and do something about it…I had to get on the road.” And so he did…

As of recently you can find Chris playing with his band throughout Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. When asked about his career so far, and the path he has taken to get to where he is, Chris says, “I think everything happens for a reason and I believe the time I spent in Nashville digging in and learning how to write songs has built a platform for me and a body of work that I’ve been able to draw from when I go out on the road to play. I think if it’d happened any other way I wouldn’t have these songs…”

Chris Cavanaugh is making music about the land he’s from, writing about the people he knew, and playing for the people he knows. Chris did not wait for a record label to tell him what they think of his music. He’s taking that straight to the beer drinkers, farmers, housewives, and college kids and letting THEM decide. In the last year alone Cavanaugh has opened shows for Thompson Square, Lee Brice, Montgomery Gentry, and Eric Church.  People are hearing Chris’ music, connecting to it, and believing…

Carter Winter

Ohio’s own Carter Winter is becoming one of the most sought after talents in the Midwest and is gaining national recognition along the way. Known for his true natural country vocal tone, a creative writing style and an incredible work ethic, Carter is definitely an artist to watch. Carter is humbled and appreciative of all of his support as the number of his fans grows after each show. He has played with a number of major label artists, including most recently a sold out Rhett, White, and Blue show with 4,000+ Attendees. When asked, “What do you want out of music, what do you want from a career?” He said, “I want to make people dance, I want to make a difference and most of all I want people to enjoy themselves.” We have no doubt he will do just that! Notable Performances Carter Winter has packed the house of many local bars and venues as well as in many other states. For John and TJ Osborne, getting into music was unavoidable. Growing up in the water town of Deale, Maryland, their close-nit-family of seven spent most nights not in front of the television, but writing and playing songs. The Brothers’ father had a shed behind their home that he used for small performances for friends and family. John and TJ could be caught listening in on their father’s playing or fetching beers for pocket change. Later their father would convert that shed into a home studio where their parents would write and record songs.

As the brothers aged, they formed a band with their ever eclectic father named “Deuce & a Quarter.” The band played cover songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Dwight Yoakem to Merle Haggard to Bob Seger. They performed at local venues in the town, but it was here that the Brothers got the taste for performing live.

John (guitar) moved to Nashville first to play in other bands. Two years later, TJ (vocals/guitar) moved to Nashville. It was then they formed Brothers Osborne and began playing as many writer rounds as they could. In April 2011, Warner Chappell/King Pen Music offered them a publishing deal. A year later, Capitol Records offered them a record deal. The Brothers Osborne are currently in the studio finishing their debut album, an album they describe as “aggressive, bold and fragile at times.” More to come from Brothers Osborne in 2015.

With a voice as rich as the mid-western soil he was raised on, Patoka, IL native, Drew Baldridge’s music reflects small town life while living large on the simple things. Drew’s music is the soundtrack to life, be if a rowdy Friday night or a peaceful Sunday morning. His songs and performances transport listeners to their favorite memories all while making new ones. He has shared the stage with artist’s such as Alabama, Phil Vassar, Montgomery Gentry, and Justin Moore to name a few.

“ Sherwood, Arkansas native David Adam Byrnes is rooted in the kind of tradition that audiences can’t deny. With strong pride for his country and a loving devotion to his family, this good ole’ boy from The Natural State is just that – natural – and is poised to make a lasting impression on country music. Byrnes heard the call of Music City as a teenager and as the aspiring star’s work fruition arose on graduation day, Byrnes opened for one of the world’s honky-tonk masters, Hank Williams Jr., which inevitably mapped-out and fueled Byrnes’ journey to Nashville, Tennessee.

 Michigan born Jana Kramer was formerly a television star on the MTV hit show One Tree Hill as Alex Dupre before pursuing country music.  Initially pursuing acting, Kramer began steadily recording and releasing music while working on One Tree Hill.  She has released one album, self-titled, which included several singles, including the top ten hit, “Why Ya Wanna”.  She is currently working on her follow-up album.

JOE NICHOLS: Country Jam 2015 Featuring: ERIC CHURCH

Another industry vet, WCOL welcomes Joe Nichols to this year’s Country Jam!  Raised in Arkansas, Nichols got his first recording deal at age 19, and released his debut album Joe Nichols in 1996.  Following poor sales, Nichols was dropped from the label and had trouble finding further success, even having to pick up odd jobs to pay his bills.  In 1999, a friend of Nichols helped him get signed by Universal South Records, and Nichols released his second album in July of 2002.  Man with a Memory proved to be a much bigger success than his debut, earning Nichols three Grammy nominations, ACM’s award for Top New Male Vocalist, and several singles, including his first number one hit, “Brokenheartsville”.  Nichols catalogue has grown substantially then, with six more albums and four more number one singles, including “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off”, “Sunny and 75”, and “Yeah”.  What will undeniably be an electric show, WCOL is thrilled to have Joe Nichols join us for this year’s Country Jam!

The two- day festival will be hosted at the historic Legend Valley Concert Venue and Campground located on Buckeye Lake, just thirty minutes east of downtown Columbus.  2015 will mark the 3rd year that WCOL Country Jam has taken place at the venue. The festival is packed with a multitude of country music acts from classic country, southern rock country, and modern country artists.

In 2013, WCOL and Bluestone Promotions formed a partnership to bring the show to the Legend Valley Music Center, a historic venue located near Buckeye Lake in Thornville, Ohio. Previous years included performers Hank Williams Jr., Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan and Tim McGraw.   The venue boasts acres of campgrounds and a large field with great views of the stage. Legend Valley Music Center has functioned as a music venue since the early 1970’s, but has undergone some name changes since that time.  LVMC has hosted a multitude of artists including: The Charlie Daniels Band, The Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Alabama, Journey, and Jimmy Buffett.

Another WCOL Country Jam artist that is sure to impress attendees is Aaron Lewis. Raised in Massachusetts, Lewis is a founding member of the rock band Staind, collectively selling over fifteen million albums and with whom he still tours and records music with. Having performed music alone, even when in a band, Lewis began recording country music in 2010, with his first EP, Town Line, being released the following year. In 2012, he released his first full-length solo album, The Road, which featured the hit single “Grandaddy’s Gun”. Known for his passionate vocal delivery and poignant songwriting, Aaron Lewis will undoubtedly be a highlight of the festival. Outshyne is a country band who hales from South Carolina. Their music has a country feel with rock overtones. Originally formed in 2007, of high school friends playing after work. In 2010 they turned their passion for music into a full time endeavor, doing 150-180 dates a year. Since then their success keeps growing!

They have opened for country music superstars including, Jake Owen, Eric Church, Lee Brice, Colt Ford, Joe Nichols, Gary Allen, and Justin Moore to name a few, Waylon sang the National Anthem at the Nascar Sprint Cup in Darlington, SC in 2013, raised over $130,000 for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and played on the Hard Rock stage for CMA Fest.

Their first single “Dirt Road Romance“, written by friends Florida Georgia Line and Albis Albritton, went to #29 on the Music Row Chart and #46 on the Billboard Indicator Chart. The album titled “Starting Over” was produced by Grammy nominated Chip Matthews and hit song writer Jeffrey Steele, and debuted #11 on iTunes the day it was released.

The bands second single “Moonlight Crush” is currently at #24 on the Music Row Chart and #40 on the Billboard Indicator, and is being played on Sirius/XM “the Highway”. The two singles combined have over 100,000 downloads and over 1 million youtube views.

Ask Chris Cagle what’s most important to him and you can bet he’ll answer this way: “Family, ranch, music. That’s it.” This response is seemingly simple for a man whose professional credits include two gold albums, two No. 1 albums and 12 charted songs. From 2000-2008, Cagle released an almost nonstop catalog of hits that resulted in a scorching hot career. Cagle’s musical character and burning ambition never wavered but today, Cagle’s personal perspective has mellowed. 2012′s forthcoming album is, in more ways than one, a new lease on life.

Born in DeRidder, La., and raised “all over,” Chris set off for Nashville after trying his hand at college in Texas and finding the pull to pursue music too strong to ignore. Like many young artists, he spent several years working odd jobs in Nashville and scraping up enough cash to record four original songs for a demo tape. t’s an exciting time to be LOCASH these days. That might very well be one of the biggest understatements in Nashville these days. Already in their career, the duo of Preston Brust and Chris Lucas have enjoyed hit singles, sold-out concert appearances here and abroad, and have tasted the top of the chart as two of Nashville’s quickest-rising songwriters. At just 20 years old, singer-songwriter Tucker Beathard already exudes the confidence and swagger of an established artist. It’s probably because music is in his blood. He started playing drums and guitar in a band with his brothers at 10 years old and had an early immersion into songwriting via his dad, two-time BMI “Songwriter of the Year” Casey Beathard. It was Tucker’s rebellious attitude as a teenager that inspired the lyrics for the chart-topping hit “Homeboy” recorded by Eric Church. Not long after making the decision to forgo a baseball scholarship to focus on music, Beathard signed a publishing deal with Big Machine Music and a recording contract with DOT Records. Now he is beginning to carve a path for his own unique and unapologetic sound with lyrics like “Hell no I don’t mind turning heads; Hell yeah I’ll get by living on the edge; Our point of views may never meet; I don’t wanna be you, yeah I know me.” Beathard is working on his debut album and is already booked for shows this summer with superstars Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban.

When the two Kentucky boys—Eddie, is from Lancaster and Troy is from Lexington—first busted onto the national scene in 1999 with the defiant “Hillbilly Shoes” notice was served—country music had never seen a hard driving duo like this.

Despite the millions of albums sold, the sold out shows and the scores of awards, Montgomery Gentry remains in touch with its working class roots. “We are blue collar workers and we lived the songs that we sing,” says Troy. “Because of that, our fans are able to make the connection and when they hear our songs, they know we are singing with passion and we know what we are talking about.”

Make no mistake about it: Montgomery Gentry has secured a place in musical history with a unique blend of country, southern rock and Everly Brothers-like harmonies combined with relatable lyrics.

“We grew up on Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Merle Haggard,” Eddie says with conviction. “That’s who we are. We cut our teeth in the honky tonks and no matter what you try to do, we have to be us or it just doesn’t sound right.”

NYE 2017 Love and Theft

“We wanted to show a different side and make a record that sounds like us,” Stephen Barker Liles says of Love and Theft’s boundary-pushing new album Whiskey On My Breath. “Country music has always been about honest performances and songs that mean something, and that’s the kind of record that we wanted to make.”

“We’re at a different place, in our music and in our lives, than we were when we made our earlier records, and we wanted this album to reflect that,” agrees his longstanding musical partner Eric Gunderson. “We worked harder and more passionately on this record than anything we’ve ever done. Every reaction begins with a catalyst, some initial event that sets things on their inexorable course. For Drake White, it goes back to something raw and elemental in his debut album Spark.

“I learned how to play guitar and keep people’s attention around a fire,” explains the Hokes Bluff, Alabama native. “A spark can start a fire that can keep you alive and sustain you. So this is the beginning for me. This is the first strike of the flint.”

The spirit of Spark comes from those simple, early days spent enjoying the outdoors among friends in the warm glow of a fire. And though he’s now a city dweller with all the complications and distractions that entails, White still seeks the freedom and deeper connections he felt when the chorus of nature and the strums of his guitar blended into one harmonious song — the kind of contentment he sings about in the swirling majesty of his single “Livin’ the Dream.” Drake White

“We grew up free. We grew up on 4-wheelers, riding through the backwoods,” he says. “We grew up hunting and fishing and being out in the Appalachian Mountains. People don’t understand how beautiful north Alabama is until you see it in person.”

Save for “Livin’ the Dream,” White wrote or co-wrote the remaining 11 tracks on Spark, working with red-hot producers Ross Copperman and Jeremy Stover through the process. He also brought in his own band for a handful of tracks to capture the energy of his live shows.

The first sound on Spark — before the pulse-quickening “Heartbeat” kicks into gear — is the voice of White’s late grandfather speaking from the pulpit. Several of these ghostly transmissions from the past appear on Spark, all extolling the virtues of love, brotherhood and nature. It’s a touch of the surreal that nods at White’s fondness for Pink Floyd’s psychedelic masterpiece The Wall, but also a deeply personal gesture that matches his vision perfectly.

“I went through about five or six sermons of my grandfather and picked out certain little snippets,” he says. “I just think they kind of fit. They’re weird and people are asking what they are. And that was my point: to get people talking about it.”

White has his own message of finding some harmony amid the demands of modern life, one that goes down easy in the uplifting, Zac Brown Band-assisted Southern rock anthem “Back to Free” and the cautionary-but soulful “I Need Real.” It’s a simple message of not letting oneself be swallowed up by technology and seeking out honest, genuine connections with others.

“When I’m at home, my wife and I keep our phones in the bedroom,” says White. “We listen to records. We hardly turn the TV on, unless it’s time for Game of Thrones. Before social networking was a smartphone app, we did it around a fire. That goes way back.”

With his gospel-derived, passionate delivery, White seems to have inherited his grandfather’s ability to touch crowds with a sermon — his divine vocal improvisations at the end of the honky-tonk flavored “Story” will undoubtedly get butts out of seats. White stresses that he isn’t a preacher, but doesn’t see a problem with putting his own methods for surviving the world out there.

“Some of the best songs, like Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” or anything by Bob Marley, have a little bit of preachin’,” he says. “I never want to come across too preachy, but instead I’m saying, ‘Hey man, this is my life, and this is what I do to be happy and I’m figuring it out just like you.’” Drake White

Spark covers an entire spectrum of emotions beyond these statements of character and self-definition. In “Making Me Look Good Again,” White cruises on an R&B-style groove to express his gratitude for his better half, while “Waiting on the Whiskey to Work” finds him embodying a man spun out on love and heartbreak. Then in the tropically-themed “Equator,” he flies south to give his nomadic side a little time to play.

“This record is about balance. It’s me asking, where’s that boy I used to be? Oh yeah, we gotta go get him back,” he says. “We gotta go on a hike or camping or grab my wife and go to some foreign country. I gotta feel alive. I gotta go out there and do that.” Drake White

Long a respected live entertainer with his (appropriately named) band the Big Fire, White’s climb to the limelight hasn’t been a straight or uncomplicated one. Rather than blowing up right away with a big debut single, he’s toiled on the road for years, giving jaw-dropping performances night after night and making believers one show at a time. “There are many different paths.
