Jebby Awards at The Bluestone
Mar 13 @ 7:00 pm

The 10th presentation (and 23rd annual) JEBBY Awards will be Friday March, 13th 2015 at The Bluestone!

An award show that celebrates excellence in movies, television, music, and local theater. Central Ohio theater rocks!

1546289_10152570495615723_4224354554174752717_n

It’s time again for The Jebby Awards!

Come back to The Bluestone and celebrate the past year in local theater (as well as some national awards sprinkled in).

Red carpet begins at 6:30, and the cash bar(s) open at 7! Come early and see who arrives and what they’re wearing during the pre-show reception. The bars remain open during the show (which will begin at 8:30 this year), as I attempt to bring central Ohio an awesome (locally grown) awards show.

Stay for drinks and dancing at the after-party, as the celebration continues. The bar will stay open until 2 a.m.

The Bluestone comes with plenty of space, but if you’d like to reserve a table that’s a new option this year.

**The reserved floor tables are sold out BUT there will still be seating on the main floor as well as in the balcony. Only a limited number of tables were reservable** THANKS!

Please note: I do not make a profit on this event and the ticket prices go directly to help me pay for the space THANKS!

Starting March 13, all tickets will be $20. Tickets purchased at the door will be for standing room only. (Cash only at the door.)

Questions? Email me at jebbyawards@gmail.com.

As part of the JEBBY Awards preparation, local performers are interviewed to share their thoughts on the year in theater. It makes sense to also use their help in describing what the JEBBY Awards are and how they came to be. Thank you to all who took the time to be interviewed. Special thanks to everyone that supports the JEBBY Awards. The awards would not be what they are without all the local backing and love from this wonderful community. Please support local theater!

Tracy Lawrence began writing music when he was just four years old.  After growing up and attending college in Arkansas, Lawrence moved to Nashville where he began performing at local clubs, eventually catching his big break and being signed to Atlantic Records.  Since then, Lawrence has been one of country music’s highest selling artists, releasing nine records and continuing to tour across the US for over 20 years.  With 13 million albums sold, 18 number one songs on the Billboard Country chart, this ACM and CMA award winning artist is sure to make Legend Valley his next conquered audience!

DAVID ADAMS BYRNES

Sherwood, Arkansas native David Adam Byrnes is rooted in the kind of tradition that audiences can’t deny. It’s in the 27-year-old’s genuine southern drawl, his natural gravitation toward a loud, rowdy honky-tonk stage – it’s in the unmistakable sincerity of his lyrics. With strong pride for his country and a loving devotion to his family, this good ole’ boy from The Natural State is just that – natural – and is poised to make a lasting impression on country music. Byrnes heard the call of Music City as a teenager and as the aspiring star’s work fruition arose on graduation day, Byrnes opened for one of the world’s honky-tonk masters, Hank Williams Jr., which inevitably mapped-out and fueled Byrnes’ journey to Nashville, Tennessee.

Soon after arriving, Byrnes’ talents landed him his first publishing/artist deal with Better AngelsMusic Group and led to the young star’s debut launch of his full-length album, Premium Country. The record’s flirtatious lead-off single, “Sweet Distraction” (Josh Thompson/Andi Zack), was released in late 2010 to select digital outlets and ranks as the highest charting debut indie single of 2010(Country Breakout Chart).

Fast-forward to 2015 and Byrnes’ devotion to his craft is as razor-sharp as ever. A staple of the JägerTour, he’s already opened for Chris Young, Mark Chesnutt, David Nail, Colt Ford, Justin Moore, DustinLynch, Outshyne and Thompson Square. Working hand in hand with manager Billy Holland, and some of Nashville’s finest songwriting talent.

EXCISION returns to The Bluestone on Thursday, March 26th 2015

Opening artists include: Protohype and MINNEASOTA

This is an 18+ show.  BUY TICKETS

Excision Featuring the Executioner Video & Lighting installation. The name itself presents a terrifying image- a mangled, forced extraction, quite literally “removal by cutting”. It should come as no surprise that the sounds behind this name are just as filthy, brutal, and unforgiving as the namesake suggests.

Excision (17 of 75)

Excision shows are like no other- a virtual apocalypse of twisting and morphing sounds turn massive crowds into a frenzy, as virtual walls of bass are relentlessly impaled time and time again upon their fragile bodies and ears. Your ears will ring and your eyes will roll into the back of your head as you are suspended in what can only be called a true sensory overload. Bass will rain down from above for hours as Excision’s skills as a DJ and producer shine like an unholy light from the underworld.

The true champion of bass music, Excision hails from Kelowna, British Columbia. The founder of the ROTTUN label, a bass music conglomerate that has shaped the sound of modern Bass music, Excision has created a vast roster of allies that has only bolstered his spot as a warrior of bass music. Armed with a library of destruction and filth, Excision has time and time again tested the limits of electronic music with vastly different sets that encompass a full range of genres. The things you see and hear during the precious time you are engaged by Excision’s sounds will eclipse your mind for a lifetime, as you are constantly enlightened by the true fervor and energy that only an Excision set can provide.

Protohype

In the fall of 2009, Max Pote and Sean Farrell joined forces to create Protohype, an unstoppable musical force of massive proportions and unlimited potential. Their irrepressible style is defined by a cunning combination of the technical finesse and swagger of a seasoned Hip-Hop veteran fused with the and raw energy and passion of an electronic music icon. Protohype specializes in a signature sound composed of extremely catchy melodic lines culminating in a dark and edgy electronic bombardment boldly accented with robust and meticulously crafted drums. With a combined twelve years of production experience between them, Max and Sean understand the crucial importance of diversity and progress while still maintaining the necessary amount of nostalgic familiarity to keep the crowd dancing; first and foremost Protohype know how to throw a raging party.

After the release of their first album, “The Protohype”, Max and Sean switched up their production style and moved directly into a new type of music self-titled “Dub Hop”, a filthy and ingenious brand of trunk-rattling bass music insidiously incorporating scathing vocals and head nodding drums. Despite their incredibly powerful and distinct creative voices, the masterminds of Protohype have formed an indelible bond on the basis of their uncontrollable infatuation with noise. Music is not only their passion; it is their inalterable and enduring way of life.

MINNEASOTA

Originally from Minneapolis, MN, Christian Bauhofer moved to Santa Cruz, CA at the young age of 18. Having just moved from the state, Christian’s newfound friends nicknamed him Minnesota, and unknowingly created his party crushing alter ego. A guitarist from the age of 12, Minnesota made attempts at forming bands until he attended Symbiosis Gathering for the first time in 2009. There he was drawn to the emerging Electronic Dance Music culture and all of a sudden knew what career path he wanted to pursue. Shortly after Symbiosis, Minnesota bought Ableton Live and his first midi controller, and within a few months was making hip-hop remixes that his friends couldn’t stop playing. Around the same time, Minnesota teamed up with a couple friends and started a production company called Vital SC (now Vital Events), but despite a string of successful shows with big name artists, Minnesota decided to split off from the promoting side of the industry in pursuit of his musical career. Now as Minnesota reflects back on his decision, he couldn’t be happier.

JAMIE LYNN SPEARS – The Bluestone
Mar 27 @ 7:00 pm

Jamie Lynn Spears will be performing live at The Bluestone on Friday, March 27th, 2015

 WCOL Miller Lite Concert Series.

Opening Artists: SAMMY ARRIAGA and Katie Armiger

Lynn-web-image

At 23 years-old Jamie Lynn Spears is already a seasoned entertainment veteran. After five years focused on raising her daughter, Maddie, the Kentwood, LA native is back in the spotlight with a sound and style that truly captures her Southern roots.

Her official music debut comes in the form of country ballad “How Could I Want More.” The intensely personal lyrics mixed with a simple song production portrays Jamie Lynn as wise beyond her 23 years.

“How Could I Want More” was written by Spears along with Nashville songwriter Rivers Rutherford, who has also collaborated with Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, and Montgomery Gentry.

Jamie Lynn’s experiences with Rivers and other Nashville writers, including Chris Tompkins, Liz Rose, Lisa Carver and Luke Laird, made for a master class in songwriting. Jamie Lynn learned about how to bring her stories to life through music and became a part of a community that helped her figure out the kind of artist she wanted to be. The experiences paid off – Jamie Lynn now has over 100 songs in her catalog.

Her first single already has critical acclaim and cultural heat. It was named a Taste of Country Critic’s Pick and her journey has been covered by such outlets as E!, Entertainment Tonight, BuzzFeed, MTV, CMT and more!

A full album is imminent and Jamie Lynn credits her producer, Corey Crowder, for helping her define her sound. “He is a huge influence, and mainly responsible for making my music sound like “me”- he really just got me,” says Spears. “It took me years to figure out my sound, and to have confidence in knowing what I wanted.”

Choosing “How Could I Want More” as her first single was not an easy decision, but she feels that it is the right one because of the help and support of her team.

SAMMY ARRIAGA and Katie Armiger

Jamie Lynn Spears Support

 SAMMY ARRIAGA

Bringing his Miami heat to Music City, TN in 2011, South Florida native Sammy Arriaga has quickly become a young, rising Country Music sensation. After discovering his natural ability and passion for singing at the age of 14, Arriaga began to teach himself to play guitar. “Picking up the guitar inspired me to learn more about the Country genre,” says Arriaga.  “And I quickly fell in love with it.” So much so that Arriaga plugged the famed Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge into his GPS and drove straight to Nashville.

At 21 years old, Arriaga is certainly no stranger to the music industry, as America witnessed his unique voice and style earn him a gold ticket to Hollywood during Season 10 of American Idol. Since making his debut on the American Idol stage, Arriaga has been captivating audiences across the country with his infectious style, performing alongside popular chart-topping acts such as the ACM-nominated duo Love and Theft and The Voice winner Cassadee Pope.  “The process of bringing a song to life, from a writer’s room on music row to music venues, is the best thing in the world,” says Arriaga.

Integrating his Latin heritage into his music, Arriaga incorporates various rhythmic elements that put a unique spin on today’s Country sound. With the release of his debut single, “Lighter Up,” Arriaga is blazing new trails and filling a niche that Country music has not yet experienced.

KATIE ARMIGER

With the release of her new album, Fall Into Me, it’s clear Katie Armiger has come of age. The album, a work of stunning maturity, also reflects the accomplished young star’s deepening confidence in her own abilities.

Armiger co-wrote every song on the 14-cut set not because she deliberately set out to do so, but because she had such a clear vision for the project that none of the many outside songs she considered seemed personal enough. “I know it’s cliché to say, but it really is kind of a diary of my life in the last two years,” she says of the album.

Working once again with Grammy Award-winning producer Chad Carlson allowed Armiger to have quite a bit of control over the album’s direction, so she opted for a central theme: love in all its many forms. “The album is literally about falling in, falling out, and searching for that special something,” she says. “The songs take you on that journey.”

Armiger chose the title Fall Into Me, she says, because “whether or not you’re falling in love, or falling out of love, that sensation of falling is always involved.” Yet other than the defiant track “He’s Gonna Change,” the album’s songs tend to take a hopeful, optimistic tone about romance, and the prospect of finding it. It closes with the sweet ballad “Safe,” which perfectly captures the security of a love that feels just right.

Other standout tracks include “Playin’ With Fire,” about the heat and volatility of a less predictable romance; “Cardboard Boxes,” which cleverly uses moving cartons as a metaphor for both the beginning and end of a relationship; and the poignant, string-laden “Okay Alone,” an empowering song about slowly healing from a broken heart that fans who find themselves in a similar circumstance are likely to listen to on repeat. The album’s first single, the feisty top 40 hit “Better In A Black Dress,” also takes an empowering tone, and were the most successful of the 10 singles and videos she’s released in her career to date.

GRIZ

Metro-Detroit native Grant Kwiecinski (born May 31st, 1990) better know by his stage name “GRiZ” is an independent American electronic music artist. Begging his career as a classically trained Alto Saxophone and piano player he was attracted to electronic music production at the young age of 14 with a spiked interest in the workings of hip-hop instrumentals and his exposure to IDM (intelligent dance music).  Stylistically, GRiZ creates bass infused hip-hop, electro soul, and future funk sounding productions often accompanied by the live performance and recording of his Alto Saxophone and the use of an array of vinyl samples.

GRiZ debuted his first full-length album late summer on Sept 4th ’12 titled “Mad Liberation” that hasgarnered him major buzz and exposure worldwide, racking up over 40,000+ downloads within it’s first 2 weeks of being released, all organically. 2012 has proven that GRiZ is not a name to forget. With the summer being filled with some huge festival performances including some notable plays at Electric Forest, Coachella, Movement (Detroit Electronic Music Festival), and Summer Set. He also joined Gramatik for his Digital Freedom tour, as well as some spread-out small headline dates in the mix. Fall 2012 for GRiZ looks to be pretty eventful, jumping on Big Gigantic and Bassnectar’s tours, then off playing a small run of his own intimate headline shows across the nation.

Vinyl Lover, People Hugger!

The Floozies

The Floozies are producer/guitarist Matt Hill and drummer Mark Hill. These two brothers from Lawrence, KS are bringing their fresh approach to electronic music and live performance to venues and festivals all over the country. The duo’s combination of cutting edge electronic production and party rocking funk energizes crowds and turns venues into epic dance parties. All of The Floozies music, including their latest album “Sunroof Cadillac,” can be downloaded for free from flooziesduo.com.

ARTIFAKTS

What happens when gritty electronic basslines meet vintage sample laced hip hop? You get the boom bap sample sound of indie producer Artifakts. Artifakts is the ever-evolving, electronic hip-hop project of Garret Meyer. Ranging from gritty down-sampled soulful stomp to mellow, airy and ambient hip hop, Artifakts has carved out a unique sound that not even trip hop can touch.

Hailing out of small town Newton, Wisconsin, 20 year old Garret began the collaborative project “Artifakts” in February 2012, and was joined by fellow 20 year old electronic producer William Thompson (Charleston, South Carolina) in March 2012. Following a summer festival circuit and live debut, Artifakts released the 11 track “Like This If” beat tape independently, featuring a smorgasbord of vinyl sampled, short electronic infused hip hop and airy trip-hop instrumentals à la Flying Lotus, Michal Menert, and DJ Shadow. Artifakts is set to release an EP in 2013 with sole works from Meyer.

Artifakts has also shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the scene such as Pretty Lights, MartyParty (of PANTyRAiD), and Cherub; not to mention plenty of collaborations with producers around the US. With multiple tracks under his belt, Artifakts set himself apart as one of the most sought after new electronic producers around.

Madeon will perform live at The Bluestone 04|29|15 Presented by the Prime Social Group.

Supporting Artist: Fareoh and CJ the DJ

 ( Doors OPEN at 9PM )

Madeon_CBUS_FB 600

Hailing from Nantes in France, 17 year old Madeon came to the attention of the world for his unique blend of Pop/House/Electro via his “Shuriken” and “For You” tracks as well as his amazing remix of Pendulum’s “The Island” single. His most recent remixes on the Deadmau5 “Raise Your Weapon” and Martin Solveig “The Night Out” singles have been a huge success with support from the likes of Pete Tong, Alan Braxe, Skrillex, Rob Swire etc… His debut single “Icarus” was a hit with both DJs (charting at #2 on the global Beatport chart) and radio (charting in the UK top 40). Madeon’s Pop Culture live mashup video has been viewed over 10 million times.

 FAREOH

Music has been central to Fareoh’s life for as long as he can remember. He learned to play guitar at the age of nine, and loved punk rock, but never committed to any exclusive genre allegiances. “I was always just listening to new stuff,” he says. Born Ian Spurrier, the New York born DJ and producer taught himself the ins and outs of digital production and honed a sound of his own: a combination of progressive and electro, with the songcraft of rock and pop. Blogs are alight with excitement about the complex yet melodic sound of this 20-year old newcomer’s productions: various original tracks and carefully crafted remixes like his single “Feathers” with Archie and his take on mentor Kaskade’s “Lessons in Love”. Fareoh was chosen by Kaskade to open for him on last summer’s Freaks of Nature tour, hitting large-scale venues nationwide. “I want to follow in Kaskade’s footsteps and represent America; represent these young DJs.” For the intensely visual thinker, Egyptian iconography and imagery has an obvious appeal. “I’ve been in love with Egyptian culture since the second grade,” he says. “I used to beg to go to

the museum to see all the different artifacts and hieroglyphs.” An early Internet screen name included the word “Pharaoh,” so Fareoh simply decided to spell it out phonetically. Pharaoh – which translates into “Great House” – originally referred to extraordinary palaces of Egyptian kings. Our contemporary association immediately connotes “Ruler”. Both definitions are apropos in witnessing Fareoh’s reign over a pulsating room of revelers on any given night.

JOE NICHOLS – WCOL Country Jam 2015 Featuring – ERIC CHURCH @ Legend Valley Music Center
Sep 4 @ 4:00 pm

Joe Nichols WCOL Country Jam

JOE NICHOLS: Country Jam 2015 Featuring: ERIC CHURCH

Another industry vet, WCOL welcomes Joe Nichols to this year’s Country Jam!  Raised in Arkansas, Nichols got his first recording deal at age 19, and released his debut album Joe Nichols in 1996.  Following poor sales, Nichols was dropped from the label and had trouble finding further success, even having to pick up odd jobs to pay his bills.  In 1999, a friend of Nichols helped him get signed by Universal South Records, and Nichols released his second album in July of 2002.  Man with a Memory proved to be a much bigger success than his debut, earning Nichols three Grammy nominations, ACM’s award for Top New Male Vocalist, and several singles, including his first number one hit, “Brokenheartsville”.  Nichols catalogue has grown substantially then, with six more albums and four more number one singles, including “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off”, “Sunny and 75”, and “Yeah”.  What will undeniably be an electric show, WCOL is thrilled to have Joe Nichols join us for this year’s Country Jam!

The two- day festival will be hosted at the historic Legend Valley Concert Venue and Campground located on Buckeye Lake, just thirty minutes east of downtown Columbus.  2015 will mark the 3rd year that WCOL Country Jam has taken place at the venue. The festival is packed with a multitude of country music acts from classic country, southern rock country, and modern country artists.

General Admission tickets are currently available for $110.00. There are several camping options available to patrons. Tickets and camping passes are on-sale now and available at www.LegendValleyFestivals.com.  Camping passes are sold separately.

The WCOL Country Jam is a country festival that has occurred annually for the last 10 years. In 2013, WCOL and Bluestone Promotions formed a partnership to bring the show to the Legend Valley Music Center, a historic venue located near Buckeye Lake in Thornville, Ohio. Previous years included performers Hank Williams Jr., Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan and Tim McGraw.   The venue boasts acres of campgrounds and a large field with great views of the stage. Legend Valley Music Center has functioned as a music venue since the early 1970’s, but has undergone some name changes since that time.  LVMC has hosted a multitude of artists including: The Charlie Daniels Band, The Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Alabama, Journey, and Jimmy Buffett.

After dropping out of college, Diffe built his own recording studio in Texas while working for an oil company. Following the shutdown of the oil company, Diffie filed for bankruptcy and had to sell his studio, leading him and his then wife to divorce. Following these hardships, Diffie relocated to Nashville, where he dedicated his time to recording demos and writing songs, eventually signing with Epic records in 1990. His releases include platinum certified albums Honky Tonk Attitude and Third Rock From the Sun, as well as many chart topping singles like “Pick Up Man”and “John Deere Green”. Diffie released a steady stream of albums until 2004 when he became more selective with his approach to projects. Since then, he has released a bluegrass album and a collaborative album with Sammy Kershaw and Aaron Tippin. With such a historic and storied career, Joe Diffie is another act we’re proud to include on the lineup of 2015’s Country Jam!

BIG AND RICH – WCOL Country Jam 2015 Featuring – ERIC CHURCH @ Legend Valley Music Center
Sep 5 @ 4:00 pm

Big and Rich WCOL Country JAM

Big Kenny and John Rich make up the Nashville country duo known as (of course) Big and Rich. Each artist had their own projects before forming Big and Rich: John Rich was a founding member of country band Lonestar and Big Kenny was an aspiring rock artist. Upon meeting, Big and John began writing songs together, although it would be several more years before the duo known as Big and Rich would form. In the early 2000’s, each artist released solo material and together founded a singer-songwriter group known as the MuzikMafia. After a suggestion from Martina McBride’s manager, Marc Oswald, that the duo join together, Big and Rich came to be. Their debut album Horse of a Different Color released in 2004 and included the chart topping single, “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)”. Following the albums release, they supported Tim McGraw on a worldwide tour. The next three years saw both artists releasing solo material before reuniting in 2012 for their fourth album, Hillbilly Jedi. In 2014 they released their fifth album, Gravity, and began their own Big & Rich record label. With several platinum selling records and a stable full of hits, Big and Rich are going to be one of the standout performances of the weekend.
